Choose your fabric & size

The same chart, three different finished sizes.

What count means

For these patterns, count is the number of full cross stitches per inch on Aida over one square. A 32-square width is 32 ÷ 14 = 2.29 inches on 14 count, 2.00 inches on 16 count, and 1.78 inches on 18 count. Higher count gives smaller stitches and a smaller design.

Leave room to work

The default margin is 3 inches on each side. A 32 × 40 chart on 14 count needs 2.29 × 2.86 inches for its canvas. With margins, that becomes 8.29 × 8.86 inches; our purchase suggestion rounds up to 8.50 × 9.00 inches.

Canvas and stitched area

The design size includes all chart squares, including blank space around the motif. It is different from the bounding box of filled squares. Keep that space to center the pattern and preserve its composition.

Choose a margin for the finish

One to six inches per side is supported. A smaller margin may suit a small patch; a hoop or frame often needs more room. Check the frame and finishing method before cutting. Unit changes convert the margin; they do not scale the chart.
